Toyota is officially opening its new North American headquarters in Texas today - July 6, 2017 .The $1 billion project includes a new campus in Plano, outside Dallas. Toyota plans to move thousands of employees from California and Kentucky and the Toyota Plano campus will eventually employ up to 4,000 people at the Plano site — including about 1,000 new local hires. All of these employees will eventually buy homes in Plano and Collin county making Plano homes for sale a much desired commodity in North Texas. Toyota plans to bring sales, marketing, financial and other services together in one location.
The $1 billion facility includes six buildings, with a focus on sustainability and employee wellness and collaboration.
The most prominent are two semi-circular buildings that share a courtyard in the center, part of the automaker’s desire to have natural space for employees to view through the buildings’ vast windows.
It includes a state of the art gym, a rock-climbing wall, an in-house doctor's office, a pharmacy, a juice bar and nearly half a dozen Starbuck's locations, among other options.
There's plenty of open space to collaborate, a change from the previous headquarters in California.
Toyota is also aiming for a LEED platinum rating. It's four garages can collect 100,000 of rain water each, which can be used to maintain landscaping. It receives 30 percent of its power from solar panels, and the rest is renewable energy
Construction of the 100-acre (40-hectare) headquarters in Plano is not yet complete, but employees have been moving in since late spring. More are expected to arrive in phases through December.
