Homeowners in Texas are receiving their annual property appraisal notices from their respective tax appraisal districts.
If your appraised property value has gone up again this year, you should look into contesting the new value of your home. In this blog post, I will share a great tool with you that I think you will find valuable in contesting and reducing your property taxes for 2019. Property Taxes have been a hot issue these past few years. With home values increasing, we benefit from increased equity in our investment, but at the same time, property taxes have increased the carrying cost of owning this investment. PropertyTax.io is a web application I discovered that will instantly tell you if the comparable sales in your area can help you reduce your property tax value, saving you money. They were recently featured in an article by Dave Liber of the Dallas Morning News: Here’s a new and inexpensive way to get help protesting your 2019 property tax. The analysis is free and requires no sign up ahead of time. It will even tell you if the comps indicate a higher value and not to pursue a reduction based on comparable sales. The analysis includes data from the appraisal district such as building quality ratings and condition values, along with MLS information. This allows you to see how the comps would look in the appraisal district’s system to a degree. Deadline to file protest
A property tax protest must be filed by May 15, or no later than 30 days after the Appraisal District delivers a Notice of Appraised Value to you, whichever is later. However if the protest deadline falls on a weekend or holiday then the protest deadline is the first business day after that date.
