Public transportation options in Dallas-Fort Worth

The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex offers a comprehensive public transportation network, facilitating convenient travel across the region. Below is an overview of the primary transit options available:

1. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)

  • Services: DART operates buses, light rail, commuter rail, streetcar, GoLink (on-demand microtransit), and paratransit services. It serves Dallas and 12 surrounding cities, providing extensive coverage throughout the metroplex.

  • Light Rail: DART's light rail system includes four lines—Red, Blue, Green, and Orange—connecting various parts of Dallas with surrounding suburbs. The Orange Line offers direct service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW Airport).

  • Buses: A comprehensive bus network complements the rail services, ensuring accessibility to areas not directly served by rail.

2. Trinity Railway Express (TRE)

  • Route: The TRE is a commuter rail service jointly operated by DART and Trinity Metro, connecting downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. It spans 34 miles with 10 stations, providing a vital link between the two cities.

  • Schedule: Service operates six days a week, with trains running hourly and increased frequency during peak periods. Sunday service is available during special events like the State Fair of Texas.

3. Trinity Metro

  • Services: Trinity Metro serves the Fort Worth area, offering bus services, TEXRail, and on-demand microtransit options.

  • TEXRail: This commuter rail line connects downtown Fort Worth to DFW Airport, with stops in North Richland Hills and Grapevine. It provides a convenient option for travelers heading to the airport.

  • On-Demand Services: Trinity Metro's ZIPZONE offers flexible, on-demand rideshare services in select areas, enhancing connectivity beyond fixed routes.

4. Dallas Streetcar

  • Route: The Dallas Streetcar operates between downtown Dallas and the Bishop Arts District, offering a convenient option for short trips within the city.

  • Integration: It connects with DART light rail at Union Station, facilitating seamless transfers between services.

5. M-Line Trolley

  • Route: Operated by the non-profit McKinney Avenue Transit Authority, the M-Line Trolley provides free service in the Uptown area of Dallas, connecting to DART's Cityplace/Uptown Station.

6. Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T)

  • Services: The T offers bus services within Fort Worth, including routes to key destinations like the Cultural District and the Stockyards.

7. DFW Airport Transit Connections

  • DART: The DART Orange Line provides direct light rail service to DFW Airport's Terminal A, facilitating easy access to and from Dallas.

  • TEXRail: TEXRail connects DFW Airport to downtown Fort Worth, with a station at Terminal B.

  • TRE Link: A shuttle service operates between the TRE's CentrePort/DFW Station and the airport terminals, bridging the gap for TRE passengers.

8. Paratransit Services

  • DART Paratransit: For individuals with disabilities, DART offers ADA-compliant paratransit services within its member cities, providing curb-to-curb transportation.

  • Trinity Metro ACCESS: Similarly, Trinity Metro provides paratransit services in Fort Worth and surrounding areas.

These integrated services collectively enhance mobility across the DFW metroplex, offering residents and visitors a range of options to suit their transportation needs.
